Lost and astray. Many of us have always felt ourselves in that state, while some start to feel it after adulthood or when they separate from their caregivers to independence. Regardless, most of us do feel that way, even if it's disguised by waves of distractions...That feeling is always lingering in the background of our inner world.
Wandering through the vast universe of spirituality, we find ourselves overwhelmed with content...Often contradicting one another, which only increases the inner confusion. Which path to follow? What to believe in? What practices to engage in?
It seems that getting completely lost in the depths of spirituality is a requirement for the seeker. At some point, you encounter yourself in a type of blank space. A blank space between vast amount of knowledge, and complete ignorance, numbness and uncertainty.
uncertainty seems to reign the minds of the spiritual seeker more than anything else. "Am I in the right path? Am I doing the right thing?". When you think you've found your true path, at some point your mind seems to delude and deceive you even more than before. After awhile you stop trusting yourself, because "I thought that was the right path, but it wasn't, therefore I do not possess an accurate intuition". You start questioning yourself.
The truth is that, that is in actuality necessary for spiritual growth.
We were programmed to believe that there are a few paths and that we must choose one of them and that is it. When in reality, there isn't.
Every single human being is unique. Even though we are similar and we do relate to one another, we are never completely the same, that would make no sense if we were. Why the hell would God split in billions of people just to be the same person?
No, we are unique. Therefore each path is unique. You can learn from others all you want but to rise to the heavens you must let go of whoever it is that you see as your guru, at some point. This will prevent you from achieving spiritual success, since you will forever remain dependent on someone else's wisdom, never relying on yourself.
Which is the essence of spiritual growth...To connect with the inner guru, the inner god.
So rest assured, it's normal to feel lost, to not know which direction to take and to feel like you're always wrong, always doing the wrong things, never sure of what you're supposed to do. The best thing you can do at this time is to let go. Let go of every teaching, every teacher, everything. Turn within and listen to your heart, it always knows. Cease the constant flow of external content.
Turn on your inner light. The guru is inside of you.
